The arrival of the first new potatoes is always a well awaited sign of summer, with that we are delighted to say that our first delivery of our Wexford grower’s Homeguard potatoes are being prepared for picking and will be delivered instore tomorrow morning.
There has never been more awareness about eating seasonally and Home Guards, a creamy coloured potato with loose, thin skin and a waxy flesh will for many be the taste they associate as heralding the start of summer with all the lovely connotations that that brings, warm sunny days, long bright evenings and time to kick back a little.
A dollop of Irish butter and a sprinkling of coarse Achill Island sea salt is all you need to make these potatoes ready to serve. Our Waterford producer Irish Gourmet Butter offers a quality selection to suit your taste. These new spuds go heavenly with fresh summer herbs like chopped parsley or chives which are supplied to us by our local growers Ballybeg Greens along with a range of other fresh herbs.
Why not add a kick to them! Slice your cooked new potatoes and fry in butter with a pinch of dried chilli flakes and a clove of crushed garlic. Season again with sea salt and cracked black pepper, and sprinkle with chopped coriander. A tasty brunch idea this summer with a poached egg on top!
Whatever way you like your potatoes, find them in store or online for purchase by the kg!
