If you love mincemeat but want to try something different this Christmas - Martin Dwyer's Mincemeat and Apple Baklava is just the ticket! Serve it hot or warm with either whipped cream or ice cream. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 10 Crisp Eating Apples
- 4 oz. Melted Butter
- 8 oz. Mincemeat
- 1 pkt. Filo Pastry
- 1 tbs. Honey
- 2oz. slivered Almonds
Method
You will need a large clean roasting tin or similar sized casserole.
Peel the Apples and cut them into little cubes. Fry these in 1oz of the butter for 2 or 3 minutes, don’t cook them through.
Using a brush paint some of the melted butter on the base of the roasting tin.
Cover this with a sheet of the pastry cut to size, paint this with butter in its turn and then spread over one third of the fried apples. Spoon over this one third of the mincemeat mixture .Now cover this with 2 layers of buttered filo and in this way build up the layers in the tin. Finish with a double layer of filo and then melt the honey over the top and sprinkle over the almonds.
Bake this at 175 C 350 F Gas 4 for 35 minutes. Serve it hot or warm with whipped cream or ice-cream.
