Bertram Salter Free Range Poultry
From his family farm in Fenagh, Co. Carlow, Bertram Salter's 'Carlow Free Range' started out supplying free range chickens to local farmers markets in 2003. He has supplied Ardkeen with excellent free range chickens and turkeys that cook carve and eat incredibly well since 2005. Betram has a stocking volume of 650 birds per house compared to between 20,000 – 40,000 birds for conventional poultry farms. The result is a much more relaxed stress free environment as the birds mature. Unusually for its sector, Carlow Free Range owns and manages the entire supply chain process from rearing their birds through to packaging and delivery. This means removing food miles and allowing consumers enjoy a healthy, wholesome and natural product that is fully traceable to the farm – just the kind of thing we look for in our Heroes.
