Together with the olive and the fig, the chestnut is one of the oldest known domestic plants. Thanks firstly to the Greeks and secondly to the Romans, the Chestnut spread throughout Italy and particularly around Naples. Our Italian Chestnuts have been harvested by hand, dried, peeled, vacuum-packed and steamed to retain all their delicious flavour.
Naturally low in fat, they can be used in a variety of hot or cold, sweet or savoury dishes at any time of the year. Why not try combining chestnuts with prunes or dried apricots, breadcrumbs, sage and butter for a delicious stuffing with a twist. Chestnuts are also great when used in a mouth watering creamy soup or simply crumbled in a well dressed salad. Why not try them with Brussel Sprouts and pancetta as a savoury accompaniment.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Low in fat.
